Verses to review today: 1 John 3:16-4:4
New Verse: 1 John 4:5

They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. (ESV)

They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. (KJV)

Greek: αὐτοὶ ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου εἰσίν, διὰ τοῦτο ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου λαλοῦσιν καὶ ὁ κόσμος αὐτῶν ἀκούει.

Transliterated Greek: autoi ek tou kosmou eisin, dia touto ek tou kosmou lalousin kai ho kosmos autōn akouei.

Literal Word for Word Translation: they are from the world, because of this they speak from the world and the world listens to them.

Vocab: λαλοῦσιν, lalousin, they talk/speak; ἀκούει, akouei, they hear/listen.

Commentary: In the time of John, the Gnostics had a large following because they and the world were of the same mold. The “world” readily listened to those who spoke like them. Today is no different. Many speak against the Christian faith and they have a large following. Those of the world will agree with each other because they are not of Christ. It is amazing today how many listen to the lies propagated by many special interest groups and those who claim to be scholars or experts on a subject who really only have a bias in their thinking. Yet, when one speaks about Christ, those who are of Christ will recognize the truth.
