We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error. (ESV)
We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. (KJV)
Transliterated Greek: hēmeis ek tou theou esmen, ho ginōskōn ton theon akouei hēmōn, hos ouk estin ek tou theou ouk akouei hēmōn. ek toutou ginōskomen to pneuma tēs alētheias kai to pneuma tēs planēs.
Literal Word for Word Translation: We are from God, the one knowing God listens to us, whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of lies.
Vocab: πλάνης, planes, of a wandering or errant manner.
Commentary: Again, those who belong to Jesus know His voice. Those who are of Jesus speak with His voice. Thus, those who know Him listen to those who speak from Him. By listening to Him, we know the truth, and everything else is error.
