Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. (ESV)

Greek: Ὑμεῖς ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστε, τεκνία, καὶ νενικήκατε αὐτούς, ὅτι μείζων ἐστὶν ὁ ἐν ὑμῖν ἢ ὁ ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ.

Transliterated Greek: Hymeis ek tou theou este, teknia, kai nenikēkate autous, hoti meizōn estin ho en hymin ē ho en tō kosmō.

Literal Word for Word Translation: you are from God, little children, and have conquered them, because the one in you is greater than the one in the world.

Vocab: νενικήκατε, nenikēkate, we have conquered; μείζων, meizōn, greater.

Commentary: We do need to be overly concerned about deceiving spirits if the Holy Spirit is in us. He is greater and knows what is true and what is not (throughout chapter 2). However, that doesn’t mean we are to be flippant and toldly careless about it either. John says to test the spirits. In the testing, we will then recognize through the Spirit what is true. By the Spirit being in us, we know Christ and a true spirit will proclaim Christ.
