Verses to review today: 1 John 5:13-16
New Verse: 1 John 5:17

All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death. (ESV)

All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. (KJV)

Greek: πᾶσα ἀδικία ἁμαρτία ἐστίν, καὶ ἔστιν ἁμαρτία οὐ πρὸς θάνατον.

Transliterated Greek: pasa adikia hamartia estin, kai estin hamartia ou pros thanaton.

Literal Word for Word Translation: All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not toward death.

Vocab:

Commentary: In the previous verse John said to pray for a brother who is sinning, except for the sin leading to death – denial of the faith. Here he says that all unrighteousness is sin, there is no exception. However, we do not want to minimize that all sin but that which leads to death is to be a matter of prayer. Sin in a believer’s life impacts that persons walk with the Lord and can increase and cause harm to him and others around him. It is also a bad witness. So, we do not want to see a brother or sister letting sin reign, even for a season.
