Transliterated Greek: kai hēmeis tetheametha kai martyroumen hoti ho patēr apestalken ton huion sōtēra tou kosmou.

Literal Word for Word Translation: And we have seen and do testify that the Father has sent the Son as savior of the world.

Commentary: This verse highlights the very beginning of 1 John in addition to verses 2:2; and 4:9,10, that John and the apostles had actually seen with their very own eyes, heard with their ears, and touched with their hands, the Son who was sent to be the propitiation for the sins of the world and thus Savior of the world! No one has seen God, but they have seen the Son, who is the Word in Flesh (Jn 1:1-5,14-18); the very image of God (Col 1:15-17); and the radiance of God’s Glory (Heb 1:3).
