Only three verses from being half way through 1 John!
Verses to review today: 1 John 2:18-3:9
New Verse: 1 John 3:10
By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother. (ESV)
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. (KJV)
Transliterated Greek: en toutō phanera estin ta tekna tou theou kai ta tekna tou diabolou• pas ho mē poiōn dikaiosynēn ouk estin ek tou theou, kai ho mē agapōn ton adelphon autou.
Literal Word for Word Translation: In this the children of God and the children of the devil are evident. Everyone who is not doing righteousness is not from God, also the one who is not loving his brother.
Vocab: φανερά, phanera, manifest (one); ἀδελφὸν, adelphon, brother.
Commentary: Whether one is of God or of the devil is evident by their works. Those of God practice righteous works (1 Jn 3:7). Those of the devil do not (1 Jn 3:8). Those of God love their brother (1 Jn 2:10). Those of the devil do not (1 Jn 2:11).
