Starting Chapter 5! Only 20 more days and all of 1 John will be memorized. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Probably spend 10 days continuing to review 1 John before moving on to Ephesians.

Verses to review today: 1 John 4:1-21
New Verse: 1 John 5:1

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. (ESV)

Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. (KJV)

Transliterated Greek: Pas ho pisteuōn hoti Iēsous estin ho christos, ek tou theou gegennētai, kai pas ho agapōn ton gennēsanta agapa [kai] ton gegennēmenon ex autou.

Literal Word for Word Translation: Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ, has been born of God, and everyone who loves the one who begets also loves the child born of him.

Vocab: γεγέννηται, gegennētai, he has been born; γεννήσαντα, gennēsanta, he who begets/brings forth; γεγεννημένον, gegennēmenon, he having been born.

Commentary: In a nut shell, repeating much of what has been said already, true believers in Jesus as the Messiah are born again by God’s Spirit and love other born again believers. The idea that one who believes Jesus is the Messiah is born of God does not pertain to mere intellectual belief, but real deep down personal belief that results in changed behavior. As James says, the demons believe, but it obviously does not affect their behavior. In other words, neither the demon nor the mere intellectual believer have faith in Jesus as a true believer does.
