Transliterated Greek: en toutō ephanerōthē hē agapē tou theou en hēmin, hoti ton huion autou ton monogenē apestalken ho theos eis ton kosmon hina zēsōmen di’ autou.
Literal Word for Word Translation: by this is the love of God revealed in us, that God sent his one and only Son into the world in order that we may live through him.
Vocab:
Commentary: The only way we can escape our separation from God is to be united with Him by the Son as a result of His death and resurrection and our faith in Him. Without that, we are forever separated. Jesus came for a rescue mission, not to condemn the world, for the world is already condemned (Jn 3:17-18), but so that men can be reconciled with God – no longer estranged in sin. Only by accepting the salvation that comes through Jesus can we avoid continuing toward an eternal destiny apart from the love and goodness of God (Acts 4:12). What kind of place is a place without the love nor the goodness of God? It is a place worse than anyone’s worse nightmare. Praise God that He has taken the iniative to save condemned souls!
