Verses to review today: 1 John 1:1-3:20
New Verse: 1 John 3:21

Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; (ESV)

Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. (KJV)

Greek: Ἀγαπητοί, ἐὰν ἡ καρδία [ἡμῶν] μὴ καταγινώσκῃ, παρρησίαν ἔχομεν πρὸς τὸν θεὸν

Transliterated Greek: Agapētoi, ean hē kardia [hēmōn] mē kataginōskē, parrēsian echomen pros ton theon

Literal Word for Word Translation: Beloved, if our heart does not condemn [us], we have confidence before God

Vocab: παρρησίαν, parrēsian, confidence; ἔχομεν, echomen, we have; πρὸς, pros, before.

Commentary: I’ve met some who think they should always be under conviction of their sin to the point of constant condemnation. While we are always to be aware of what we have been saved from, and we are to strive to live in righteousness, we are to live in peace knowing that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. That sure doesn’t mean we are to live how ever we want, but it does mean that we are to live as we are free from bondage, ignorance, and fear.
