Verses to review today: 1 John 3:1-3:17
New Verse: 1 John 3:18
Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. (ESV)
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. (KJV)
Greek: Τεκνία, μὴ ἀγαπῶμεν λόγῳ μηδὲ τῇ γλώσσῃ ἀλλὰ ἐν ἔργῳ καὶ ἀληθείᾳ.
Transliterated Greek: Teknia, mē agapōmen logō mēde tē glōssē alla en ergō kai alētheia.
Literal Word for Word Translation: little children, let us not love with word or with tongue but in deed and truth.
Vocab: Τεκνία, teknia, little children; ἀγαπῶμεν, agapōmen, let us love; λόγῳ, logo, to/for word; γλώσσῃ, glōssē; to/for tongue/language; ἔργῳ, ergo, to/for work/deed; ἀληθείᾳ, alētheia, to/for truth.
Commentary: Verse 18 follows up verse 17 in that our actions ought to speak for us rather than our words. We aren’t to talk about what we should do, but we are to do it!
