Greek: Τίς ἐστιν ὁ ψεύστης εἰ μὴ ὁ ἀρνούμενος ὅτι Ἰησοῦς οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ χριστός; οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ ἀντίχριστος, ὁ ἀρνούμενος τὸν πατέρα καὶ τὸν υἱόν.

Transliterated Greek: Tis estin ho pseustēs ei mē ho arnoumenos hoti Iēsous ouk estin ho christos; houtos estin ho antichristos, ho arnoumenos ton patera kai ton huion.

Literal Word for Word Translation: who is the liar if not the one denying that Jesus is the Christ? this one is the antichrist, the one denying the Father and the Son.

Commentary: If the believers know the truth, no lie is in the truth, those that went out from them do not know the truth, and those ones are the antichrists, then the lie that they believe is that Jesus is not the Christ. This is that belief that separates the Gnostics and true believers. Actually, it separates all nonbelievers from believers. But John goes one step further. As he says in several places those who deny the Son, also deny the Father (Jn 5:23; 1 Jn 2:23). The Gnostics are deceived enough, just like those of New Age religion, to think that they can know God while rejecting the Messiahship and divinity of Jesus.
